Let me say this first…good skin is not about doing the most. It’s not about 15 products, daily masks or waking up at 5am to steam your face. It’s all about small habits done consistently…the kind that fit into real life.
Here are the simple, no-pressure things I do weekly that improve my skin.
1. I Exfoliate Just Once (Sometimes Twice)
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin, but overdoing it causes:
- Sensitivity
- Breakouts
- Dark spots
- Irritation
I exfoliate once a week, usually at night.
What I use:
- Gentle chemical exfoliants
- Mild scrubs (very occasionally)
Examples:
- The Ordinary Lactic Acid 5%
- The Ordinary Glycolic Exfoliating Toner
- Paula’s Choice 2% BHA
- COSRX BHA Blackhead Power Liquid
If my skin feels sensitive, I skip it. Simple.
2. I Focus on Hydration One Night a Week
One night a week, I keep things basic and hydrating.
My routine that night:
- Gentle cleanser
- Hydrating toner
- Simple moisturizer
No actives. No treatments. Just calm.
This helps my skin reset especially after heat, makeup or stress.
3. I Wash My Makeup Tools
Dirty brushes and sponges = breakouts waiting to happen.
Once a week, I wash:
- Makeup brushes
- Sponges
- Powder puffs
I use:
- Mild soap
- Baby shampoo Or
- brush cleanser
It’s not glamorous 😀 , but it makes a difference.
4. I Change My Pillowcase
This one is small but powerful. Once a week, I change my pillowcase and beddings especially if:
- I sweat at night
- I use hair oils
- I’ve been breaking out
Clean pillowcase = fewer breakouts, less irritation.
5. I Do a Simple Face Mask (Only If I Feel Like It)
Masks are optional, not mandatory.
When I do use one, it’s for:
- Hydration
- Calming the skin
- Brightening gently
Easy options:
- Sheet masks
- Hydrating clay masks
- DIY honey mask
No forcing. If I’m tired, I skip it.
6. I Check in With My Skin (Not Criticise It)
Once a week, I take a moment to notice:
- Is my skin dry?
- Am I breaking out?
- Does anything feel irritated?
I adjust gently…not aggressively.
Skincare works better when it’s observant, not punishing.
7. I Moisturize My Body Properly
Good skin is not face-only business.
Once a week, I:
- Exfoliate my body lightly
- Moisturize properly…neck down
- Pay attention to elbows, knees, feet
This keeps my skin even, soft and healthy.
Better skin doesn’t come from pressure. It comes from patience, kindness and consistency. These weekly habits don’t overwhelm me and that’s why they work.
You don’t need to do everything. You just need to do a few things well.
Hugs and Kisses,
Msglam.
