Mid-Year Skin Check-In: How’s Your Skin Actually Doing?

We’re halfway through 2026 and I think it’s worth pausing to ask the question nobody really asks: how is your skin actually doing right now, compared to January?

Not compared to someone else’s skin. Not compared to what an algorithm is telling you your skin should look like. Just…is it better, worse or about the same as when the year started?

I ask because mid-year is genuinely a useful moment to reassess. The harmattan is behind us, rainy season is here, and your skin has likely shifted in response to both. What worked in the dry season might be too heavy now. What you were skipping then might be exactly what you need now. Your routine should be a lifestyle thing, not something you set once and never revisit.

For me, the biggest mid-year reflection is always about consistency. The products that are working aren’t necessarily the most exciting ones. They’re the ones I’ve actually stuck with. The niacinamide. The SPF every single morning without negotiating with myself about it. The gentle cleanse that doesn’t strip. Nothing dramatic, just showing up for my skin regularly and letting the results build over time.

If your skin has been frustrating you lately, before you overhaul everything, ask yourself one question first: have you actually been consistent? A routine you follow 80% of the time will always outperform a perfect routine you follow 30% of the time.

And if you genuinely don’t know where your skin stands right now, that’s useful information too. It means it’s time to pay attention again. Simplify, observe, adjust.

You’ve got six months left in the year. Plenty of time to finish strong. Let’s do it!
