Skincare : Why You Should Add Dermaplaning To Your Routine

It’s no longer news that dermaplaning has become a thing in the beauty industry. Thanks to this skin treatment (which has been around for years but became a trend recently), you can get rid of peach fuzz in no time and have really smooth skin. According to Wikipedia, “Dermaplaning is a medical procedure that exfoliates the skin (or epidermis) by removing dead skin and vellus hair (peach fuzz – the short, soft hairs on the face). The procedure is performed by an aesthetician, who will gently glide a scalpel across the skin, removing the outermost layer of skin cells and hair from the face.” Here’s a simpler explanation, Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that uses an exfoliating blade to skim dead skin cells and hair from your face. It’s also called micro-planing or blading.

The aim  of dermaplaning is to make the skin’s surface smooth, youthful, and radiant. It claims to remove deep scarring from acne and uneven pockmarks (marks on the skin left by a pustule or spot). This treatment can be done on any skin type and anyone with acne scars, fine wrinkles and dull, dry or sun-damaged skin.

Pros :

  • Smoother skin.
  • Zero peach fuzz.
  • Slightly brighter looking skin.
  • Skincare products get easily absorbed into the skin, making them more effective.

Cons :

  • You may experience some redness after the treatment.
  • It is not suitable for people with sensitive skin like those with Keratosis Pilaris and Rosacea.

Overall, dermaplaning is a very safe method of facial hair removal as long you get it done by a professional or do it at home with the right tool. As a DIY lover, I did mine at home using the Urban Skin RX Dermaplaning Tool, a few weeks back and it went really well.  Unlike most videos I’ve seen online, there wasn’t a lot of hair on my face, so I didn’t have much to show you guys.  However, my face felt like baby skin immediately after I finished. There was no downtime as well but I made sure to use a face moisturiser and sunscreen lotion afterwards and everyday. I also noticed that my skin looked brighter than before dermaplaning. As I’ve found out, it took a few days to see and appreciate the full results. So, you have to be patient.

*Please note that after a dermaplaning treatment, you’ll need to be extra careful about sun exposure. Sun damage could reverse the effects of dermaplaning, or create pigment blotches on your freshly uncovered skin cells. In the weeks after a dermaplaning treatment, don’t leave the house without wearing sunscreen on your face.*
